Welcome to the family, Bella.

Did you stop here on Monday expecting to find a Meal Planning Monday?  Well, on top of having internet issues (grrr!), I had neglected to sufficiently plan our meals for the week.  Thus, no MPM.

Read: I was so wrapped up in baby shower planning that I just didn’t have it in me to get non-shower food groceries last Friday on my trip to the store.

Luckily we’ve survived on party leftovers and pantry staples thus far. I actually thought that, between those things and one crockpot (y’all know how much I love my crockpot.  I mean, next to my husband and my children, I’d grab it first in a fire.) meal that I knew I had all the ingredients for, we could make it through the week without any grocery stops.  And that would have been the case, except for one heart-breaking (yes, I’m being dramatic) incident yesterday.

You see, I had decided to use the last of our frozen chicken breasts ($6), a jar of pesto from the back of the pantry ($4), a packet of ranch seasoning ($1.50), and a can of chicken broth ($1.50) to throw together a pretty nice sounding supper in my beloved slow cooker.  What happened next has been on slow motion replay in my mind for the last 24 hours.

I finished stirring the pricey, yet lovely ingredients together, cranked the crockpot on to high, then just as I lowered the lid……….BAM!  It slips out of my hand, hits the crock, shatters, and hurls glass shards every.where.  In my arm, on the floor, on the counters, in my fruit bowl and into my soon-to-be yummy looking dinner.  It was one of those incidents in which you just kind of stand there at first, not knowing what to do, and taking in the fact that everything around you has been affected.  I’m not going to lie, for about 30 seconds, I thought about trying to fish all the glass shards out of our dinner-to-be, in an attempt to salvage it, and pray that it would be edible.  But the mama/nurse/HUMAN in me recognized that would be a bad idea.  So in to the trash they went – my $13 dinner AND the crockpot.

Don’t worry, though – this story has a happy ending.

After {nearly} crying to my husband, he offered to take care of dinner AND gave me the green light to buy invest in a new crockpot (Happy Valentines Day to me!!).

So off to Target I went to fetch a few last minute Valentines Day supplies, a couple extra groceries to tie us over AND my new slow cooker.  I just have to tell you -- when I saw her?  It was love at first sight.  All shiny and red.  Three different settings.  AND BIG.  A 6-quarter, if you must know.  Yes, I think she is going to make a lovely addition to our family.

{Did I really just make an entire blog post about a CROCKPOT?!?  I won’t blame you if you never come back again.}

She's beautiful! He handle on the lid broke off my crockpot a couple of meals ago. I'm still using it because I love it so much and I know they don't make the same one anymore. I love that mine has a timer feature that goes to warm after whatever u program it for.
