When my phone rang Friday, mid-morning and I heard J on the other end suggesting that we take the kids to the drive-in movie theatre 45 minutes away that evening, my reaction wasn’t exactly what you would call excited or encouraging. In fact, I think my exact response was, “WHY?” I was tired from an early morning long run, grumpy from getting the kids ready and off to school, and stressed from trying to work with a busy/needy 21 month old on my lap. Lucky for me I have a husband that shows me a LOT of grace in situations like that AND that can still recognize opportunities for fun. By afternoon I had come around and had started preparations for our evening under the stars – planning snacks, laying out comfy clothes, and gathering blankets and pillows.
The movie was a double feature – Brave and Ice Age: Continental Drift – but, seeing as the first didn’t start until dusk and we had an near hour commute back home, we ended up only staying for Brave, which was totally fine with the kids. They had a blast! It was a perfect evening, complete with a stop for pizza on our way into town, “tailgating” in the parking lot, football tossing, and lots of mid-movie cuddling with our six ring circus packed in the back of our van like clowns in a car.
That evening set the tone for an all-round exceptional weekend. Eli started fall baseball on Saturday with a double header, then we were able to watch our beloved Cyclones beat (albeit not well) our in-state rivals, the Hawkeyes. Talk about a sweet victory! Sunday was church, lunch with my parents, football, errands, and a whole lot of relaxation.
And this week? Back to business. Work, school, running, softball, birthday celebrations, rental house cleaning and football. Oh yeah, we have to eat in there somewhere.
So here’s what’s on the menu:
Monday: leftover ravioli and green bean casserole, courtesy of my mama.
Tuesday: Fiesta Chicken Salad
Wednesday: Dinner in celebration of my mother-in-law’s birthday
Thursday: Foil Grill Packets
Friday: Sour Cream Pancakes
And tell me…how was your weekend? What are YOU feeding YOUR family this week?
