Summer weekends are just THE best, are they not?  They’re especially great when they include the local Farmer’s Market, baseball, dinners with family, Church, pool time, bike rides, and Sunday sibling sleepovers.

Today J took our 3 big kids to an I-Cubs game (pics to come!), which meant it was just me and my little Kai Pie for much of the day.  And that was nice.  Except for the fact that she obviously doesn’t know what to do without her siblings around to entertain her because she clearly wanted all my attention all.the.time.  So, I had to, you know, be A MOM and actually get down on the floor to read books and play. I’m happy to report that it was just as much FUN as it was last week when I had to do it last.  Just kidding (kind of).  Seriously, though, I feel so blessed that our kids play unbelievably well with each other and are amazingly good to one another (most of the time).

I often get asked, “How do you get any work done from home with the kids around?”  To which I try to be honest and say that often times I don’t get as much done as I would like.  The real answer, though, is that I get up waaaayyy early to work before the kids wake up, we have a strict schedule, AND our kids have always been great about playing independently or entertaining each other. (PS I have the BEST job and the world’s GREATEST bosses!) Now, I’m not convinced that this is the perfect way to parent.  Would I like to spend more time on the floor playing?  Of course!  However, working from home and maybe not being able to do the "regular” stay at home mom stuff is kind of the trade-off we’ve chosen to make so that I can be home and so that our kids don’t have to go to daycare (not that there is ANYTHING wrong with daycare…we had an AWESOME daycare experience with Addison…that should be a whole ‘nother post.).

In honor of these lazy summer days, I’ve been lazy with my meal planning, too. We have 2 meals planned (carry-overs from last week) to use this week before needing to hit the grocery store again.  So, it looks like we’ll be having Grilled Cheese Wraps tonight and Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Casserole with homemade Pico tomorrow night.  After that?  Probably cereal, hot dogs, and sandwiches.

Here’s to a happy summer day!
