Garden. Take II.

If you remember, last year was our first ever attempt at gardening.  All in all, I’d say that our rookie year was a success.  We learned a LOT, saved {some} money on groceries, enjoyed the obvious benefits of fresh produce consumption, and were able to teach our kids a few great lessons (patience, commitment, and how to spot a bug-infested tomato, just to name a few) along the way.

This year, my husband, Mr. Greenthumb, adopted the bigger is better mentality {of course!} and whipped up 3 more raised garden beds, potentially tripling our produce.  He then installed 3 large rain barrels and managed to develop a system for watering and to deal with overflow.  It was not without it’s headaches, but in the end, they work and he did GREAT!  These pictures were taken several weeks ago, before we planted, and with my phone.  But I think they give you a pretty good idea of our garden/rain barrel set-up.

From the looks of things now, it won’t be long until we have LOTS of fresh garden veggies!  Salsa, anyone?
