The newest member of our furniture family

Like many of you, I'm always on the look out for a good deal on Craigslist.  But as we all know, those good deals don't last long, so when I saw this early one morning last week, you better believe I jumped all over it. The person listing it must have been sitting at her computer waiting for an offer because within minutes of emailing her to say I was interested, I received a response.  "Pick it up today and it's yours."  Ok, then!  So, I sweet talked my spring breaking husband and his sidekick (my father-in-law) into driving 20 minutes to the nearby ghetto (yes, we have those in Iowa, too) to pick up this beauty:

Awww.  It was love at first sight and I knew I could offer her the love she so desperately needed. And when I say "I", I really mean "we." We. As in, me and my always-willing-to-go-along-with-whatever-crazy-ideas-I-come-up-with husband. He's the best.

We sanded her down, primed and painted, painted some more, then gave her a little "distressing."

And...viola!  We think she fits perfectly into our little furniture family.

Right now she's calling our entryway chalkboard wall home, but knowing the way I like to rearrange furniture, she won't be there for long. I'm also thinking she deserves a cute little cushion and maybe a couple different pillows to call her own (rather than the ones stolen out of the living room).  We'll see.  It'll depend on her behavior these next couple of days.

Yes, I realize that I've taken the characterization of this wooden bench a little too far.  BUT, I love putting our own blood, sweat, and tears (here I go with the melodramatics again!) into our home and the things in our home.  Especially, when we can do it for cheap, cheap, cheap!  The bench cost us $40, the supplies were maybe $10, and we used paint leftover from our bench/shelf unit that my handyman dad made us.  Total cost 9for those of you who can't do simple math!)? $50.

50 bones, y'all!

Well, I'm off to enjoy a little outside time with the munchkins before my first pedicure of the season with my mom. I {heart} pedicure weather! Bring on the flip flops!

Once again, I'm linking up to Kimba's DIY day at A Soft Place to Land!

I'm also linking up to Show and Share Day over at JAG! Check out the par-tay!
