Part II: Our weekend away and Elijah's birthday

Happy Monday! What a beautiful day! I'm convinced God made this sunny, perfect day just for me (ok, maybe you too) because I had been dreading it for weeks. Today is J's first day back to school. We sooooo enjoyed having him around for the last couple weeks and are missing him already. Poor Eli, he's just totally out of sorts without his daddy here.

Anyhoo, as promised, I thought'd I'd conclude my recap on our weekend away and Little Man's birthday.

During the week following Addison's birthday and both kids' birthday party I was making lists and attempting to pack for our three day road trip up North.

Yes, it took me all week to pack for our family of five. We require a lot of crap.

The adventure began on Friday morning when we loaded up the van with luggage, kids, movies, bottles, diapers, wipes, and the kitchen sink. The four hours there were fairly uneventful, despite the horrible construction/traffic, and increasingly grumpy children. All in all, the kiddos did great. We even managed a stop at the outlets in Medford for lunch and some back to school shopping. After our little shopping escapade we loaded back in the van, continued on, and arrived at our hotel with just enough time to unload, change clothes, and re-load everyone for the Twins game. This was the first Major League baseball game for all of the kids and I think it's safe to say that everyone had a great time! We lasted four long innings before deciding it was time to get back to the hotel and put everyone to bed. Well, that was our plan. Our bosses thought otherwise.

Of course, all three kids fell asleep on the 20 minute trip back to the hotel, and as predicted, all three also woke up as we were transferring them from our faaaarrrr away parking spot back to the room. Can you guess what happened next? Yep, NO one (except mom and dad!) wanted to go back to sleep. After wrestling, pleading, begging, bribing, bargaining, rocking, holding, and scolding we got desperate. At 11:15 pm we loaded everyone back into the car and drove around until we were sure all three were in deep sleeps and out for the night, at which point we headed back to the hotel and VERY carefully unloaded 3 sleeping babes back to our room.

Saturday morning we were up and at 'em bright and early. On the agenda for that day? The Mall of America. We wandered, shopped, wandered some more, rode rides, ate lunch, and just enjoyed each other's company. Around 2:30 we decided to make our way back to the hotel for much needed naps. Again, the children had different plans. At the hotel the kids declared it play time and Mom and Dad didn't have much fight left in them. So, play we did. A little before 6:00 we went back to the MOA to meet Chandra, Darryl, and beautiful Brylee for dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. It was a great meal (despite the fact that Eli HATED the restaurant!), and even better company.

Sunday morning was the BIG little man's 2nd birthday! We started the morning with a few presents in the hotel, then packed up, checked out and made one last stop at IKEA. After a birthday breakfast and some quick, unfocused shopping we decided it was time to head back home. The kids were so exhausted from their aforementioned lack of sleep that the ride back was quiet and quick.

As soon as we were back home Elijah opened a couple of of the "bigger" presents, then we were off again for a quick swim at my parent's. That evening J's parents stopped to hang out and enjoy an ice cream birthday treat (thanks, Papa and Jojo!).

It was a quick weekend, but one filled with great memories!
Of course, what post would be complete without a mess of pictures? Enjoy!
Meeting Dora and Diego. Addison was PETRIFIED!
(I was horrible about taking pics and this is the only one not taken at the game. I didn't even get one of Chandra, Darryl, and Brylee! :( )

It was good to see you guys. I feel like we didn't get to talk much, between the screaming of "VOLCANO" every few minutes and the monkey show that horrified Elijah! Good memories though!
